No Nuance November

Like any other 20-something year old corporate employee, I have been trying desperately to find happiness and joy in the time of COVID-19 and elections. This has culminated in an intense appreciation (more like addiction) for Tik Tok.

A platform that many initially took for granted but has soon proven itself as a true juggernaut, Tik Tok has revolutionized the way we communicate, particularly for younger generations. Due to the app’s advanced algorithm, content spreads much faster than on other platforms and trends are easy to piggyback on. This results in mega stars catapulting to near-celebrity status overnight, and all you need is one post to make it happen.

Trends come and go quickly on the app but my favorite is No Nuance November, where TikTokers post “hot takes” or unpopular opinions with little to no context to spur conversation. Many have used this trend to spread awareness on political topics such as the 2020 election, race relations in the United States, and the difference between performative activism and allyship. I, for one, have learned more from these 30 second quick snippets than I could've ever dreamed of learning from reading long threads on Twitter.

So in the spirit of the trend, here are some of my hot takes for No Nuance November:

  1. Books are better than movies.
  2. The in-between seasons (Fall and Spring) are better than the more intense ones (Summer and Winter).
  3. Chunky peanut butter is better than creamy, and pineapple is a perfectly suitable pizza topping.
  4. It's perfectly fine to skip over Thanksgiving and go straight to Christmas (or other winter holiday you celebrate)
  5. The Georgia runoff election is one of the most important races of this election cycle. (This should NOT be a hot take, please donate to fairfightaction.com and the campaigns of both Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock).
